How do I get the Emergency Pill?

If you have had sex without a condom or think it might have failed and you are not using any other contraception method you can use emergency contraception, often called ‘morning after pill’ or ‘EC’. This is available from:

  • Most Pharmacies
  • GP Surgeries
  • Sexual Health Services

You can get this up to 72 hours (3 days) after sex, however there are other methods available which work up to 120 hours (5 days) after sex. The sooner you get emergency contraception the better.

If you have missed a pill and need advice - please see our rules factsheet.

You can also use this Missed pill calculator. This tool can help you better understand what to do if you forget to take your combined or progestogen-only pill on time to ensure you take the right precautions after missing a pill.
