What is sexual assault?

Sexual assault or rape is any type of sexual act occurring without the consent of one of the people involved. Anyone regardless of gender, age, class, background or sexual orientation can be a victim of sexual assault or rape. It can include being physically forced into a sexual act as well as being pressured by someone to have sex when you do not feel you have had any choice.

If you have been raped or sexually assaulted, it is important to remind yourself that you are not to blame. Nothing that you have done can make a person rape or sexually assault you. You are not responsible for someone else’s actions.
