Patient Information for Trans STI Kits

The information below is for transgender and gender diverse people who have ordered one of the online testing kits from our website. This information will be sent out with the appropriate STI testing kit.

Which tests do I need to do?

This kit contains all available sampling options and there are clear instructions for each test.

Some testing options provide more accurate results than others based on your anatomy. From the information below, you can choose which is most suitable for you based on your anatomy and also the types of sex you are having.

Vaginal (frontal) swab - If you were assigned female at birth, this will test for Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea. If you have had a vaginoplasty, a urine sample will give a more accurate result, so please do a urine sample instead.

People assigned female at birth with a vagina/front hole can provide a urine sample, but a swab (see above) provides more accurate results.

Urine sample - This will test for Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea. This is ideally for people with a penis, phalloplasty or vaginoplasty.

Rectal (anal) swab -This will test for Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea. Please complete this test if having anal (bottom) sex or sharing anal sex toys.

Throat swab - This will test for Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea. Please complete this if having oral sex.

Blood sample - This will test for HIV & Syphilis, Hepatitis B & Hepatitis C.

(Please complete the blood sampling regardless of your gender or anatomy)
